Spinal Flow

Spinal Flow

Spinal flow works directly with the nervous system, the nervous system is responsible for all muscle, organ, tissue and cell activation. And along with activation of our bodies other systems, the nervous system controls blood flow, movement, breathing etc including our thoughts and emotions leading to mental health issues, the mind and body are one as the brain is responsible for sending signals via the spinal cord around our body. Stress however causes interference with the nervous systems ability to communicate effectively by creating hardness/blockages in the movable vertebrae of the spine, causing pain, illness and disease, the root cause to pain and disease starts with the nervous system, so it makes sense that this is delt with rather than the symptoms.

The Nervous System

At a foundation level, much of the physical and mental diseases in our lives is rooted in chronic stress. Chronic stress is evidence of an imbalance of the autonomic nervous system, which is composed of two parts, the sympathetic (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic (rest, digest and heal).

In our modern world, we are overstimulated and the nervous system is chronically activated in a state of “fight or flight”. This heightened state becomes habituated within the nervous system, glandular system and the mind itself. We find ourselves unable to relax, stressed, anxious and exhausted.

When we are unable to relax, the balance of the nervous system is lost and the body becomes addicted to adrenalin, the hormone that facilitates the fight or flight response. Digestion, healing and sexual functions, which are related to the rest and digest process, are consistently compromised and disabled. Breathing is chronically shallow and disease soon sets in when we are in a habitually activated state, if these issues go unaddressed at their foundation level, the tendency toward sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, digestive issues, pain, illness, muscle dysfunction and chronic disease increases.

As spinal flow releases layers of stress it decreases blockages within the spine to allow effective nerve conduction so your body can heal and restore balance between systems, creating change to our posture/spine allowing the nervous system to function without interference.

Posture tells us a lot about a person’s health, the more stressed we get the more our posture changes. Our spine has 33 movable vertebra/joints which are designed to weight bear different parts of our body, the spinal cord/nervous system is housed within these movable joints and the brain.

When we are continuously under stress those 33 vertebra become ridged/hard, changing our posture and ability to weight bear which then impacts how our nervous system functions, as the joints begin putting pressure on the nerves, distorting the brains signals to the spinal cord and the nerves that come out to supply all of our cells, tissues, muscles and organs. This is what causes pain, dysfunction, imbalances, illness and eventually disease.

How does it work?

The practitioner contacts your nervous system by accessing the dura matter/meninges, this is the connective tissue surrounding the spinal cord and brain, the points we contact are called access points. These points and tissues allow communication pathways to open so the brain can signal effectively.

The 3 stressors which cause blockages and miscommunication in the nervous system:

  • Physical – day to day wear and tear, exercise
  • Emotional/trauma – grief, feeling overwhelmed, workplace stress, relationship issues, anxiety, depression etc
  • Chemical – food, alcohol, drugs, medications etc
